One of my favorite images.

This is my good friend Alex. It is a grey Wednesday in February in 2019 as I write this and I have not seen her in weeks. Six winters must have passed since I took this photograph.

Every time I stumble across this, I smile and feel bigger inside, warmed by this moment from years ago. There is a touch of melancholy as well. The past is past after all, and this moment is long gone. The most striking things in this world can be fleeting and uncatchable, full of lyrical magic and bittersweet brevity.

This image is technically a bust. I had whipped up the Leica to my eye to grab this shot of Alex as she was being a goofball. She was moving and dancing and skipping on the sidewalk. I shot on the previous settings so the image is out of focus and the shutter speed was too slow.

And yet.

Everything that is magnificent about her, everything that is delicious about this world, all of that is here in this image.

I look at this image and her smile and I wish my days were endless.
