New Delhi | The Family That Lived in the Tree

I was on my way to a poor neighborhood in New Delhi. It was January and everyone was wearing jackets and v-neck sweaters, but I was still hot and sweaty in my t-shirt and shorts.

There was a busy, gnarly intersection near under a highway, just lots of screaming cars and exhaust and dust and hotness. So, a typical intersection in Delhi then.

I spotted a few beautiful women and this charismatic young man by a center divider. I walked up to them and they spoke broken English and I chatted with them and snapped a few photos.

The extended family lived on this little divider in this intersection with this grand tree. They had their belongings and food in bags in the tree.

It was a large family. They were beautiful and kind.

Delhi is very crowded.
